I am curious to see what counts as a "true" transsexual. There are plenty of people who struggled with gender identity issues who tried to conform to society to fit in. Only after years of mental strain do they instead decide to embrace their true nature. Would this attitude make renowned doctors such as Dr. Bowers and Dr. McGinn mentally ill men? They struggled to make their way in a masculine profession, established themselves, then transitioned to their true gender, and seem to be doing quite fine. Not everyone has the same opportunity to transition at an early age. Many struggle with financial, family, and cultural issues that prevent them from starting transition at an early age. While it would be nice to start early (and avoid the ravaging effects of puberty) its simply not feasible (or sane) for someone to completely abandon their life, family, job, and social support without a great deal of consideration and mental evaluation especially at a young age. That is why the WPATH rules are in place. More importantly, i would posit that allowing a young person to make such a life altering decision without a great deal of consideration and mental evaluation would be poor judgement, as most young people lack the experience and wisdom to make such tough choices.
Im sorry to rant but your elitist attitude just rubs me the wrong way and it smacks of ignorance and an utter lack of compassion.
