Celebrity News & Gossip / Ann B. Davis - Brady Bunch's Alice - Dead at 88
« Last post by pepo-pepo | June 02, 2014, 01:30:33 »
Ann B. Davis, best known as the ever-chipper live-in housekeeper Alice Nelson on the highly rated ABC series The Brady Bunch, has died in San Antonio, CNN reported. She was 88.

Davis, who earlier won two Emmy Awards for her role as the peppery secretary Schultzy on The Bob Cummings Show, died Sunday after a fall in her bathroom, CNN reported, adding that she hit her head and never regained consciousness.

The Brady Bunch, created by Sherwood Schwartz, originally aired from September 1969 to March 1974 on ABC, then spent a year in syndication, followed by several reunion films and spinoff series.

It's the story of Mike Brady (Robert Reed), a widowed architect with three sons -- Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher Knight), and Bobby (Mike Lookinland) -- who marries Carol Ann Martin (Florence Henderson), who has three daughters: Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb) and Cindy (Susan Olsen).

Davis played the housekeeper Alice on the sitcom and occupied the center square of the checkerboard in the show's opening.

Davis, who was an avid knitter, told People magazine in a 1992 interview that the cast "got along beautifully. … "I had the boys hooking rugs and the girls doing needlepoint." She said in the story that in real life, "I basically don't do that well with children."

When he came out Monday night they were hiding his legs. Looked like the years caught up with him and he had a wobble in his knees. Shame too and his last speech was memorable...

"Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them bleed deeper and something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized by the storytellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever."

Marvel's Ant-Man May Add Evangeline Lilly As The Female Lead
By Eric Eisenberg

With the male leads all but completely sorted in Edgar Wright's upcoming Ant-Man, the time has come to talk about the fairer sex. Since the film has been development at Marvel Studios we have heard a number of names mentioned in regard to possibly playing the part, including Olivia Munn, Eva Longoria, and Rashida Jones, but now a new name has entered the game and it looks like she is the new frontrunner. Variety is reporting that Evangeline Lilly, who got a taste of blockbuster filmmaking appearing as Tauriel in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug at the end of last year, is now reportedly being eyed to play the female lead in Ant-Man.

What's interesting about the trade report is that it fails to specify exactly who Lilly might play. The first instinct is that she will be playing Janet Van Dyne, also known as the superhero Wasp, but it's unclear how that character would fit into the mix with an older Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who is Van Dyne's husband in the comics. Instead, Variety says that there is a chance that Lilly will be playing Hank Pym's daughter and Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) love interest. As the trade notes, Pym doesn't have a daughter in the comics, but it's entirely possible that screenwriters Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish are changing things up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the story (after all, they are using an Ultron that wasn't created by Pym in the Avengers sequel).

For those unfamiliar with Van Dyne, she is a superhero who, like Ant-Man, has the ability to shrink herself down to bug-size. Unlike Ant-Man, however, she also has both the ability to fly and fire bio-electric energy blasts from her hands. It's unclear how much of this might actually make it into the film or if Wright and Cornish are even using the character, but it doesn't hurt to know the information.

Lilly has long been known for being picky about the roles she chooses. With the exception of The Hobbit, the only films that she has appeared in since the end of Lost have been The Hurt Locker and Real Steel. It's worth noting that Variety says she is only in early talks for Ant-Man right now, so nothing is a done deal.

I understand your point and I'm just as flabbergasted and frustrated as anyone else upon hearing this news. Yet we all have our demons; indeed jerking to what I find linked within this forum is just one of many demons that I deal with on a personal level, day after day. That's my business and that's my problem. It's just sad to witness another person succumb to the beast inside all of us. The world is ripe with idiots, but I hesitate to describe one of the best actors of our time as just an "idiot". Xiandaniel, you may be a very strong person, but please have empathy for others who aren't quite as strong as yourself. Remember, kindness is a sign of strength--not a sign of weakness. But you already know this.
